August Islamorada Fishing
August 8th, 2008Well it is that time of year where somethings slow down and others pick up. The tarpon are still here but have slowed down quite a bit, it is an early morning show and the size of the fish have gotten smaller- they are averaging in the 60 pound range. I am still leaving at about 6.30 am and back to the dock by 10.30am ,it is an early morning show when it is cooler and quiet, then it is over so figure an early AM half for that. In the Everglades National Park we have been catching good numbers of Sea Trout, from very small to 25-26 inches some days, along with them we are catching ladyfish, jack crevelles using 6 pound or 10 pound spinning they fight real hard, this can be done on a half day if you just want to get out early and beat the heat of the day. Further back on the full day trip for the hearty [can take the heat] I have been catching good numbers of Snook most days with some redfish, pompano, jewfish, trout and jacks mixed in {snook season is closed ,we can catch but must throw back] Now here is the rub SHARKS– big ones , they are eating as many hooked snook as we catch . These sharks are so big that I don’t even have Tackle big enough to catch them. So we catch a few then when the sharks take over we go do something else. The mangrove snapper fishing remaines good if you want some for eating ,the kids love to catch them also. I have not been bonefishing all summer, the water has been very warm and I have been just looking for a lot of action for the customers. So far the HURRICANE threat has been non exsistent, thank the good lord for that. weather has been hot and sunny most days with just a few showers around so bring a light rain jacket with you.
