Fishing Calendars…A Necessary Useless Tool of the Trade
July 20th, 2008The fishing calendar. You know, the list of what fish bites best in what months or even what specific week you can expect to catch the most of this or that. It’s required on every website, brochure, and tackle shop wall right behind the Banjo Minnow display. Well, here in the Florida Keys, you can pretty much throw them away. At least here in the tropics, one rule stands above them all. THERE ARE NO RULES. It’s called fishing for a reason.
For example: Kingfish. The largest of the Macheral family. A cold water fish. We get schools of them in the wintertime on the north side of the Florida Keys. Well, Dick Deasey caught this 28 pounder right out by the main ship channel in 180 feet of water in the Atlantic Ocean… Yesterday!
