Key West Fishing Reports
April 20th, 2009. . . Brent (Major) and his dad Don had a great day catching lots of Groupers, there limit of Yellowtail Snappers, This Big King fish was the largest fish Brent has ever caught.
This was a calm day so we traveled out to the Marquesa Island area. About 40 miles west of Key West. Our first stop was very hot. The bite was on and we could hardly get baits down. The fish were almost wanting to jump into the boat. I never seen such hot action. Don had almost been worn out fighting a monster fish. As it turned out it was a 6′ yes {six foot} Barracuda. Had to be close to 50lb fish. We didn’t board it but released it at the boat.
Our next stop was a few more miles west in 40′ of water. When I stopped the fish finder was full of a cloud of fish!!!! Must be a big school of Yellowtail snappers. We anchored up and as soon as we dropped baits back we hooked up. Everyone had a time landing big Flag Yellowtails. Our baloon bait with a ballyhoo on it took of with one of the hardest hits i’ve expiernced in a long time. The whole boat shook with the hit. and the reel just zingged out. Brad grabbed the rod and the fight was on. This was a big fish and didn’t give in for a long time. With my coaching Brad was fi nally gaining line and the fish tired out after many long runs. We boated this nice King fish and Brad said this was the biggest fish he has landed. With big Groupers and a full limit of Snappers plus the King we pulled anchor and boogied on home. A great day and thankfully calm seas for change. . .
