Permit A’Plenty, Tarpon and Bonefish About.
March 25th, 2008March is always great for Permit fishing and it usually is very good for Tarpon and Bonefish too. This year we have had numerous cold fronts sweeping through the Keys, leading to inconsistent water temps. The Tarpon and Bonefish have been showing in between the cold fronts when the water warms in an East or South wind. Meanwhile the Permit have been actively feeding on the flats and there have been some really great days chasing the Great Pompano. We should be in store for some more outstanding Permit fishing from now through at least October, with March and early April, June, July, August, September, and early October prime time. The Tarpon and Bonefish should swarm the flats in larger numbers as March turns into April and May. The water temps will warm into the upper 70’s and low 80’s and stay there consistently and as this happens the fish will really respond with vigor. Grand Slam fishing will really be upon us this Spring and early Summer!
