The offshore bite off of Marathon and the middle Keys this week has produced some great catches of Dolphin fish (Mahi-Mahi). Nice school fish have been found all over the area from 11-19 miles offshore. Some have been under Frigate birds and some around floating debris. Nice ‘gaffer’ sized fish have been common and some large bulls and cows have been around the area also. One report of a bull pushing 50lb came into Key Colony Beach and several other large specimens..

Also, some of the offshore fishermen have been putting their electric reels to the test deep dropping for swordfish but have been catching some great eating Barrelfish! Nice surprise from the deep to your dinner table. Swordfishing has been good also when time and weather allows. Blackfin Tuna have been active on the Marathon west hump and the 409 hump a little more to the east.

Capts running offshore trips have been hitting a wreck or two on the way in along the reef edge and have been rewarded with some giant mutton snappers of up to 25lb! Excellent way to top off the day and get a different kind of action to mix things up. Some large Amberjack have also been on the bite on wrecks and an african pompano or two have been reported coming in from the Duck Key area. . .
