Wahoo and Blackfin Tuna in March

March 24th, 2009

The most frequently asked question we get is, “When is the best time to go fishing?” It’s a tough one to answer without sounding like a smart-aleck, but here goes… You can catch any fish at any time of year in Key West. Period. We just don’t have any real seasons for fish. The air and water temperature change only a few degrees, the tides from the Gulf of Mexico into the Atlantic Ocean cycle every six hours, and the Gulf Stream runs just a few miles offshore. It is an ever-changing pallet of possiblilities and anyone that thinks they have it figured out is either naive or lying to you.

Kim and John Hawkins have fished aboard the Mr. Z repeatedly and have caught just about every species. They have caught Sailfish, Dolphin, Kingfish, Wahoo, Blackfin Tuna, and numerous reef species and they always come at the same time of year. They would be the first to tell you that you just never know!
